Creating Strategy and Strategic Decision Making

Designing and implementing a good course of action (‘strategy’) from a company’s mission statement.

A good mission statement and company vision give clear directions for employees to work, however, they also need to be broad enough to give maneuvering room so people’s individual and group expertise is used to its full benefit. Using the directions defined by the upper management, good courses of action are designed by managers or directors of for instance departments, production locations and sales.

In this course we cover the following:

  • Starting from the overall mission statement and vision, analyzing your department or company and the context it functions in.

  • Through comparing these analyses, finding ‘matches’ (indicating potential business opportunities) and ‘mismatches’ (indicating potential strategic problems).

  • Identifying different directions for courses of action, each containing concrete sets of actions.

  • Analyzing each on a well-balanced set of explicit criteria.

  • Pitching your analytical message and feeding the decision making process.

  • Implementing and evaluating the decided upon course of action.


Finalizing your thesis project for BSc, MSc and MBA students

Getting in charge of your thesis project.

For some, working on their thesis sounds like a lonely and scary time, but, on the contrary, it can be an enjoyable period of serious and substantial personal growth.

This course empowers students in the period working on their thesis project. We address students who want to ‘own’ their thesis project and who want to discover their best way to finalize projects such as a thesis project. In other words, students who want to become ‘professional (thesis) project finalizers’. Nice for the thesis project that will finalize more smoothly and most likely with a better result. But even nicer for your professional life after your graduation if you have the ambition to become a project leader, manager or CEO and create a situation and atmosphere in which you and the people in your team can perform.

We have helped, coached and supervised hundreds of individual thesis projects on BSc, MSc, MA, PhD and MBA level very successfully with our human oriented, decisive and energetic approach. Dealing with Complex Situations

Getting a firm grip on everyday ambiguous business situations in which no-one can tell what the problem is precisely, nor can be determined what ‘the best solution’ is.

Apart from jigsaw puzzles that have a clear unambiguous solution, almost all other situations we face are ambiguous. This is also referred to as complex situations or wicked problems. We use the perspectives of many different people to describe the problem, create causal models to understand the situation and find multiple potential solutions.

In this course we cover the following:

  • Starting from your experienced complex problem or the complex situation you are in, identifying the perspectives of different people in order to define this problem or situation.

  • Create both a potential ‘problem space’ as well as a potential ‘solution space’.

  • Create simple qualitative or more elaborate quantitative causal models to understand the mechanisms present in the situation or problem.

  • Identify as many as possible potential actions or solutions.

  • Screening this long list of options down to a short list of promising options.

  • Analyzing and comparing these options on a well-balanced set of criteria.

  • Presenting the results as input for a decision making process.

Systematic Business Administration

Creating a clear mission statement and vision for your company that provides clear directions for lower management without limiting them too much in their ways to act.

Mission statements and visions are powerful tools to provide clarity, stability and coherence in an organization. They aid all employees in their decision making in all levels. Good missions statements and visions give clear directions for determining useful courses of action and strategic plans for department directors and operational managers. They provide a framework for all employees to check whether they take ‘good decisions’.

Mission statement and visions should be narrow enough to provide clear directions for strategy, but wide enough not to already point in the direction of one particular solution or one particular course of action. Balancing this dilemma well results in using the potential. intellect and creativity of your staff to its full potential.

Due to the very interactive nature of creating missions statements and visions, this course is less suitable for a strict on line approach, although it can be backed up with on line material and on line interactions. This course has a hands on practitioners approach. It helps management teams in commercial organizations in their practice, just as well as it helps students in universities and business schools as part of their larger curriculum to develop systematic business administrative skills. It is taught in many different formats and sizes and can be customized in detail on your request.


Playing the power game

Succeeding as leader and reaching your goals in power situations you encounter.

Leaders have the hard job to simultaneously perform well in many different interacting (social) situations. Not only are they expected to always be stable, give directions and provide a safe and interesting place to work for employees, they also need to determine their own style of leadership, play the power game well both intern the company as well as outside it when interacting with other organizations or in the media, and, handle any complex situation well that they encounter.

For this, leaders need to also understand mechanisms of power play, such as potential ‘followers’ testing the trustworthiness of a potential leader, other ‘wannabe leaders’ challenging a potential leader, find and exploit weak spots, and, the meaning and practice of loyalty.

Developing your Leadership Roles, Styles and Strategy

Identifying your way of leading your group, department or company.

You are a leader 24/7/52. People around you trust you and respect your leadership. You go into that position because you have a clear idea on your role as leader, your objectives and your style.

In this course we cover the following:

  • Well established leaders can, in theory, determine ‘everything’, so identifying your focus points is essential to be effective.

  • Different classic styles of leadership for different people and situations.

  • Realizing and anticipating the group phases of storming, norming, performing and adjourning that the groups you lead go through.

  • Identifying and using the different possible roles and expertise of yourself and all the people you lead.

  • Creating an overall plan for your leadership including, objectives, styles and approaches for the period that you are the leader.


Using Neurolinguistic Programming

Becoming more successful in your actions based on more stability within yourself.

Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) supports in finding effective ways to communicate, both within yourself as well as in interaction with others. It helps you to represent the world in such a way that it is supportive to you, your objectives and your actions.

In this course we cover the following:

  • Using communication models, language and the use of strategies.

  • Relating observable behavior to more abstract neurological levels such as convictions, values and mission and vice versa.

  • Identifying and replacing unpractical and non-supportive convictions.

  • How multiple resources around you, such as other people, skills, thoughts, places, activities, etc., can be used effectively.

  • Your vision on the world around you in terms of the basic convictions of NLP.

Using your own skills, strength and experience to overcome hurdles and go that extra mile to reach your objectives.

Everybody faces difficulties, setbacks and periods of demotivation and low energy. This is a normal phenomenon that is part of life. It is also part of life that we are equipped with a bright mind and creative skills to overcome difficulties, setbacks, and, periods of low energy.
