Conflicting Leadership Values

Explore the tensions that shape your leadership—and learn how to balance them.

Leadership isn’t just about style.

It’s about how you navigate competing values. Do you prioritize clarity or openness? Do you act quickly—or wait to include others?

This session surfaces those internal tensions and helps participants find language, structure, and strategy for handling them more intentionally.

What This Session Helps With

Use this session when:

  • Leaders feel torn between competing expectations or roles

  • Decisions are delayed due to internal or team-level misalignment

  • People struggle to explain why they act the way they do

  • You want to move beyond style and into substance—values, trade-offs, priorities

What Happens

Participants engage in a Serious Game that introduces complexity and ambiguity—often through a team scenario with conflicting demands.

Throughout the session, we use a structured framework of leadership value pairs (e.g. autonomy vs. alignment, speed vs. inclusion, control vs. trust). Participants map their own tendencies and reflect on how these show up under pressure.

We pause the game at key decision points for facilitated reflection:

  • What did you prioritize—and why?

  • What value was in conflict with that choice?

  • What was the impact on others?

With light theory and group dialogue, participants begin to reframe leadership not as a fixed trait, but as a dynamic balance between values.
