The Edge of Comfort

Step into unfamiliar roles—and discover what they unlock in you.

Growth doesn’t always come from doing what you’re good at.

Sometimes it comes from doing the opposite.

This session invites participants to notice their default behaviors—and then deliberately try something different. It’s playful, stretching, and often surprising. The edge of discomfort is where growth lives.

What This Session Helps With

Use this session when:

  • Team members are stuck in habitual roles or group dynamics

  • People want to grow flexibility and range—not just polish existing strengths

  • You want to move beyond thinking or discussing and actually experiment

  • The goal is insight through experience—not theory or slides

What Happens

Participants engage in a collaborative Serious Game—either a web-based escape room or a physical board game (depending on the group size and format). Each participant receives a specific role to step into—often opposite of what they’d usually do.

For example:

  • The dominant speaker becomes the quiet observer

  • The one who usually holds back takes the lead

  • The fixer listens without offering solutions

As the team plays, these shifts generate new insights, tensions, and conversations.

We pause between game phases to reflect:

  • What felt easy? What felt hard?

  • What surprised you—about yourself or others?

  • What patterns do you now recognize more clearly?

AI tools may be used during or after the session to deepen individual insight, frame alternative responses, or support journaling.
